Trailhead Fit & Suspension Setup
The core session
Get your bike feeling right, for how and where you actually ride.
One session, on your local trail. We fit the bike to your body, tune the suspension to real data, and prove the change before you leave with settings you understand and can repeat.
Why it works
Fit first. Suspension built around it.
Your position determines how your weight loads the bike. Weight distribution determines how the suspension behaves. A suspension tune built on the wrong position is still wrong, no matter how good the tune is. So we establish the fit first, then build the tune around it, together, in one session.
Ergon fit, integrated
A proper ergonomic fit with the Ergon MTB Expert system, built around your suspension, not bolted on after.
Data-verified tuning
We tune with ShockWiz data, not guesswork. Every change is measured, and every measurement is repeatable.
Proven on your trail
Sag, spring rate, and the balance between front and rear, ridden and confirmed on your local trail before you leave.
Who's doing the work
This is not a side hustle with a torque wrench.
Modern Savage is rider-side, not shop-side. There is no bike to sell you, no parts margin to protect, and no reason to find a problem that is not there. The read you get on your setup is the same read whether you spend another dollar with us or not.
This session runs on the same fit-then-suspension method behind every session we deliver, backed by instructor-level training in bike maintenance and tuning. We are not guessing at settings and hoping they hold.
How the session runs
One change at a time. Ridden, not guessed.
-
01
Before you arrive
Your bike model and key components, your height and weight with riding gear, your riding style, and where you ride and what currently feels off.
-
02
Fit check
Saddle height and fore/aft, bar height and reach, lever angle, and how your weight actually sits front to rear on the trail. Position first, always, suspension follows from it.
-
03
Suspension baseline
Sag, air pressure for your weight and style, and rebound within a usable range, set against the fit we just confirmed, not against a generic chart.
-
04
Trail validation
Short repeatable sections, ridden, paused, one change made, ridden again. Cause and effect stay clear the whole way through.
-
05
Your known-good window
You leave with a range you understand and can return to, plus simple written notes. Not a single magic number, a setup you can repeat yourself.
Where this stops
Kept honest, on purpose.
This session is not biomechanical fitting or medical advice, race optimisation, workshop servicing or repairs, or ongoing coaching. It covers one primary bike per session, and it focuses on fundamentals, not complex edge-case tuning.
If we suspect a mechanical fault, air loss, creaks, or binding pivots, we stop and send you to a workshop first. Setup cannot fix broken hardware, and we will tell you plainly rather than tune around a problem.
Price and booking
One clear price. Two ways to reach us.
Not sure which applies? Use the request option and we will point you to the right place. No obligation to proceed either way.
Questions
FAQ
Is a bike fit included in this session?
Yes. A full fit is included and happens before any suspension work begins. If you want to sort out comfort or pain first without committing to the full session, the standalone Trailhead Bike Fit at $119 is the right starting point, and you can book the suspension work separately afterwards.
Do I need to service my suspension first?
If your fork or shock has clear mechanical issues, air loss, sticky travel, obvious knocks or leaks, get it serviced first. A setup session cannot fix worn seals or broken hardware.
Is this a coaching session?
No. This is about bike feel and setup fundamentals. We may make small practical suggestions that affect comfort and control, but this is not a skills clinic. Coaching is available separately from October.
How long does a session take?
Approx 2 hours, depending on the bike, the trail, and what needs changing. We do not rush, and we do not keep tweaking once the setup is clearly in a good window.
Can we do two bikes?
Standard sessions cover one primary bike. If you need two bikes assessed, request it and we will confirm feasibility and scope.
Will you give me "the perfect settings"?
You will leave with a known-good range you understand and can return to, not a single magic number. The point is stability, repeatability, and clarity on what changes actually do.
